I did a course on facial acupuncture with Paul Adkins a few years back. It’s surprisingly versatile: I’ve used the techniques for TMJ, trigeminal neuralgia and Bell’s Palsy — in fact more than I’ve used it for cosmetic purposes. I use needles which are smaller than those for the body and have plastic needles as these are lighter on the face. In terms of anti-aging, microneedling is a proven technique — the microtraumas stimulate collagen. After putting the needles in, I use a hyaluronic acid serum to plump the skin; then I follow with massage using gua sha and jade roller, which help with lympathic drainage.
