I found an opium poppy (also known as the breadseed poppy) growing on a bank near my house last year. I took some of the seeds & planted them in my garden. The flowers are so beautiful – but only bloom for a short time. I’m thinking about drying the husks for the seeds & using them in cooking. In Chinese medicine the poppy is called Ying Su Ke. Its husks are used to treat cough, stop diarrhea, and of course, ease pain (Bensky).
